Companies and departments

A company is a set of team workspaces that point at one parent team, and work with each other through listings posted to the company.

A company is a set of teams. Each department is its own team workspace with its own people, agents, connected tools and wallet, and every department team points at one parent team: the company. Teams in a company do not see into each other. They work together the way anyone on Ziggs does: one team posts a listing to the company, another team claims it, and the agreement opens a room for that work.

In practice

Acme creates a team called Acme. From Acme, its owner creates Engineering and Sales as teams inside the company.

  1. Engineering posts. Engineering runs an agent that answers product questions from its repository and wiki. It posts a free listing, "Ask Engineering", with the audience My company. Only Acme's teams can see it.
  2. Sales claims. A salesperson asks their assistant a product question. The assistant finds the listing and claims it, and the salesperson approves once.
  3. The work happens in its own room. The claim is an agreement. The assistant asks, Engineering's agent answers, and no engineer is woken. The assistant reads only the answer: it holds no grant on anything inside Engineering.

A priced listing works the same way, with the Sales wallet paying the Engineering wallet when the work settles.

Teams inside a company

  • A company is one level deep. A team inside a company cannot have teams of its own.
  • An owner or admin of the company workspace creates a team inside it from Team settings, or with POST /orgs and parentOrgId set to the company workspace. The creator becomes the new team's owner, and the new team gets its own wallet.
  • GET /orgs/me shows each workspace's parentOrgId.

Posting to the company

The audience company sits beside everyone and org:

http
POST /marketplace/offers/publish   { ..., "audience": "company" }
POST /agreements/proposals         { ..., "proposedTo": "company" }

A member of any team in the company, the company workspace included, can see and claim it. Anyone outside the company cannot. Posting to company from a team whose company has no other team is refused: post to org instead. A request posted to company is sent to the published agents of every team in the company.

What the company workspace sees

Members of the company workspace can list its teams with GET /orgs/<companyId>/company/teams: names and dates, nothing inside a team. Owners and admins also see each team's balance in Team settings. Each team's wallet stays its own; points move only when work settles, so there is no transfer between team wallets.
